Clash of civilizations- Muslim and Western societies.

Category:

A
new world order in the becoming.

After the fall of the Berlin wall, the cold war era was practically over. Until that point in history, the world was divided in three major blocks: the Western block as the NATO alliance, with the United States as the superpower leading it, the second block with Est Europe block as the Warsaw Pact, and the Soviet Union as the superpower leading it, and the last block which was composed by the so called "Non-Aligned Movement of Nations". The purpose of this organization was not to consider themselves aligned with or against any of the above superpowers.

Once the cold war was really over, a new world order would have established after it and consequently we all thought, a period of peace would have followed with not major conflicts around the corner.

But, the world without wars or enemies seemed that couldn't be maintained for very long periods of peace and tranquility. Even when, there are not apparent wars looming on top of our lives, it's like humanity can't live without them, we have to look for one even when there are none around. Apparently, Nations need to look for new enemies to maintain a precarious world balance, and some time by even inventing one. After 9/11, looked like some Nations had found their new enemies. At least that's the impression I got after reading some newspaper, or commentaries in some web pages or worst, from some politicians from Europe as well here in the States. Now some of them, are depicting a worrisome world which I didn't like at all. A possible future, where the Western Civilizations are in an hypothetical war against Arab/Muslim civilizations.

Clash of civilizations.

For example, I watched recently in the web videos, where reporters were talking about Arab fighting forces "jihadists" which were preparing themselves for a global Jihad against the Western civilization, and in the same time they were showing up pictures, where some Arabs fighters were training and preparing in hiding camps for a war of annihilation of the West civilizations or, ideologies and the West had no choices but, to fight them aggressively. They were not talking just about terrorists but, they were pointing out the menace was coming from the Arab world as an all.

I didn't agree with those provocative views
of the Arab/Muslim world coming out from those videos. The thing that mostly alarmed me from all the rantings coming out from the above commentaries and videos was, the all Arab/Muslim world are hating us for what we are or, what we represent to them, a threat to their own culture and therefore, we needed to fight them back as a preventive measure.

Terrorists should be fought and defeated as well, the radical and violent faction of Islam but, terrorists or, radical Muslims are a small minority in the Arab world, not the entire Arab societies. Even though, these minorities are trying to push the Arab world in a holy war versus the West, doesn't mean we have to hate and prepare ourselves for a holy war against the entire Arab world. There is a need to eliminate the overlap between terrorism and Islam, this need is essential to start winning the real war against terrorism. Islam has been high jacked by the terrorists (as many Muslims keep telling us), making of it an excuse to fight for an holy war against West civilizations.

Some young Muslim men, which are joining terrorist forces to fight the infidels and a supposed Western hegemony in the world, those same young muslims alone don't represent the all Arab/Muslim world. The all Arab world doesn't hate us, there isn't any cultural clash between us and them but it will be if, we create the ground for it to flourish on.

The time of Crusades is gone, we don't need new ones.

Hysteria which has erupted after 9/11, it's leading us nowhere. We need to look closer for the real reasons of why and when, this crisis of cultures has come to be today. We don't need some scare-monkey tactics from some medias or politicians, about the danger of a raising fundamentalistic Islam. We need to understand the causes of it, and consequently find remedies to stop further unwanted consequences.

Muslim and Western societies.

I have so many Arabs friends and, none of them is preparing to fight us in a war of ideology and religion. They are good working people like us and like us, the peaceful Muslim communities are worried of all these dark forces pushing us and them, toward a point of no return. To be more clear, I will repeater what I'm trying to tell in a different way: "We all, should be concerned about all these nonsenses, stop them right now that we are in time, and not keep proceeding toward uncertain futures of fatal consequences for all of us."

There are, many Arabs of different nationality working and worrying every day in the United States, and most of them are not preparing to wage a war here or, in Europe as well.

Arabs are not all terrorists, they have their own culture and religion, we should respect them as they should respect us. To avoid further misconceptions, we should all meet in the middle to find ways of not killing each other for some ideologies but, to mitigate all the problems arising from this new world we need to dialogue now, if we want to live, work and get along together in peace.

If we look back in time, we will see that diversity of ideologies and multiculturalism can work together if, we really want too. By just checking the past history as I said, we will see indeed, there was a time when the Arabs were in Spain and in part of south Italy. In those ancient times, we could find different communities and religions in those parts of Europe, where people were living and working together harmoniously. So why shouldn't it happen again today?

Muslim Spain and European Culture.

By the beginning of the ninth century, Moorish Spain was the gem of Europe with its capital city, Cordova.

When you think of European culture, one of the first things that may come to your mind is the renaissance. Many of the roots of European culture can be traced back to that glorious time of art, science, commerce and architecture. But did you know that long before the renaissance there was a place of humanistic beauty in Muslim Spain? Not only was it artistic, scientific and commercial, but it also exhibited incredible tolerance, imagination and poetry. Moors, as the Spaniards call the Muslims, populated Spain for nearly 700 years. As you'll see, it was their civilization that enlightened Europe and brought it out of the dark ages to usher in the renaissance. Many of their cultural and intellectual influences still live with us today.

9/11-The day the world realizes that the unimaginable was happening! (last part)

Brooklyn-September 11,10:30 a.m.

Now, I grabbed the phone trying to reach any of my brothers, but I couldn't reach them, I tried to contact any of my friends, but I couldn't either. I than decided to get out, looking for my car, when I saw my mother approaching me.

She asked me if, I knew of what was going on in New York, I told her that I watched the news, and I knew something about it. While I was speaking to her, I could see in her eyes, she was deeply worried, I was too, but I was carefully not to show any of my own worries to her.
I told her, I was getting in the car to get in New York, when my
cellphone ringed. Was my sister from Italy "they new from the TV news spreading already around the world", asking for my mother, I passed my cellphone to her, while noticing that slowly, one by one a small crowd was gathering around us, they were family members, and friends, who got the bad news from different sources.

At some point, I remember
paying attention to one of my young nephew, who was telling us, that while he was in school his teacher together with the class, had opened the windows and looked at the sky, after noticing smoke billowing up into the sky from Manhattan. Instinctively, I looked up at the sky at the far north I could indeed see smoke, in the reflective light I could even see very t
iny things flying in the smoke. Now, I noticed my mother talking in the cellphone to one of my brothers wife, my mother was asking her for informations if, she knew anything about her husband, her answer was she couldn't contact him.

Brooklyn-September 11,11:45 a.m.

While all these was happening, I noticed
a figure approaching us, was one of my br
others. As soon as we saw him, we approached and surrounded him, while in the same time starting questioning him. The only answers he gave us were, that he had left Manhattan after seen what was going on, and that he tried to contact the other two brothers, and left believing that they by now were safe in Brooklyn. Now, he was regretting his decision while looking at my mother face, he knew that he made a mistake. He decided to go back with me, fortunately when we were on the point to leave, my mother received another call from my cellphone this time was one of my other brothers, "Eric" who was still in New York. At that time, he was working close to where the other brother "Mike" was working at the World Trade Center, and could contact him by phone.
This brother "the one whose was working
in the World Trade Center buildings number 7", lived in Staten Island, and to get to work he went by ferryboat.

At 8:30 a.m. he arrived from Staten Island
by ferryboat, and he was walking through Manhattan to get to work, when he saw the first airplane hitting the first tower, and than he witnessed all the rest.
That day three of his colleagues died, because they got to work much earlier. A cousin of mine "Michael," who was already working in his firm inside tower number one at 37th floor, he could escape with all his colleagues as soon the first plane crashed in the tower. A couple of my acquaintances also died that day."

Brooklyn-September 11,02:15 p.m.

My two brothers, could get back in Brooklyn after a couple hours.

*****

Only in the following days the two brothers which saw all of what happened that day, even though they were reluctant in the beginning, slowly they started to tell us all the horror they saw, and how they felt that tragic morning. Even though, I had no fatalities in my family from that tragedy, I realized that moment could easily been one of them, or even myself, and was all a matter of luck if we were all safe now.

Still these todays, I think of all those people who died in that fateful day, who had no chances to see their families, eve
r again. I wonder if anything could had been done to avoid all those deaths, I feel an angry sore, thinking that I live in a big country such as the United States, and whoever was in charge at that time in preventing such, tragedy could not. May be it was unforeseeable, may be. I am so enraged to those @#%&# which perpetrated this unimaginable crime till these days, and even though I don't believe personally in capital punishments in this case, I would approve it without thinking twice. Even better if, I could had them on my hands, I would make them suffer by torturing, and in the end very slowly kill them.

I hope, God would forgive me, for these terrible thoughts, but I can't I can't refrain myself from formulating t
hem in my mind. I'm angry when I think, how those people died, I can't even imagine. They went to work one day, a day like any others, while leaving their families not knowing, that........ that day was their last one. This painful thought still lingers in my mind. I remember the movie "World Trade Center" starring Nicolas Cage, which gave me an inside of what kind of horror, and sufferings of those poor souls had to deal with, before dying. While watching the movie I had tears in my eyes, that's something I ever rarely done in other dramatic events in my entire life.

A crime committed in the name of a God,

or a crime committed in the name of an ideal,
or by any other crime committed against humanity,
it's unforgivable!!!

May God, be merciful on all 9/11/ victim souls...

This post is a tribute and a reflection of the 2,749 people who died in New York on 9/11/2001 victims.

I still have vivid memories of that mournful day. That day was a close call for my family. The dreadful day as I recall:

*****

Brooklyn-September 11,8:30 a.m.

I just had woken t
o another daily working routine, my family had already left for their daily incumbencies, and I'm getting ready to go to work. After fin
ished washing myself, now dressing up while sipping some express Italian coffee'. I remember while watching outside my window, that day wasn't anything like the usually New Yorker Autumn. That day was at my eyes so majestic, the sky was so clear and the color was the kind of blue which reminded me of my beloved Sicily in the spring time. While my thoughts were lingering on that Brooklyn view, I couldn't help to notice that the leaves from the trees were still green, there were no sign of Autumn appearing on them whatsoever.

I was living at that time in a second floor apa
rtment, and the view from there was so incredible, I could even see the Verrazzano bridge. Nothing could cross my mind, that something horrible would e
ver happened "while watching that peaceful view" in a few minutes. In my morning routine never had the time to watch the morning news, I don't know why, but that day without much thinking, even though I was getting late to work, I decided to turn on my TV. While watching the TV news I wasn't really paying much attention to it, my thoughts were more on the day ahead of me . Slowly my mind started to focus on the news anchor, while he was reporting an accident to one of the tween towers.

Brooklyn-September 11,8:45 a.m.

One plane had collided into the
World Trade Center’s North Tower. The images that were coming out from the TV screen, were not really focusing on the back of my mind, I thought it was just an accident as the reporter was telling at first, but then, the scenario changed abruptly and now as I'm watching the news coverage a second airplane had crashed in the second tower.

I recall my mind got locked in a loophole while it was trying to figure o
ut what was going on. Was that for real, or my mind was hallucinating while desperately my brain was trying frantically to find a possible answer to what seemed so unreasonable. My brain came out with a feeble solution, that what I was watching that moment, in all probability was a movie. But, that thought didn't match up with the TV's morning schedule. In fact, in the mornings there were not movies scheduled in the TV's morning hours, but news, only news. Now, my brain was hampering more desperately for a possible solution to, a question that was out of reach.

The anchor man voice was now getting more frantically as the images were changing from second to second.

Now, something snapped from inside me.
I had to change channels to see that everything was as expected as in the normality. God, I couldn't find any working station. "Something was really wrong," now I started thinking while pushing buttons more fast, but in the end the only results that came out from all the frenetic pushing was only one channel, the same channel I started with. All my links to the world was that channel "which was CBS channel 2".

Tragedy strikes the towers.

I can't recall how many minutes passed by, when tragedy struc
k one of the tower, the time seemed to stand still.
Something indescribable was happening in front of my eyes, loud sound were coming out from the screen while that tower was collapsing rapidly in itself. That image, put my mind in a state of fast forwarding/rewinding thoughts, in splits seconds my mind was traveling back in time, recalling all the things related to those towers, I have been in those towers so many times for work, or pleasure, "I even got some pictures of them, pictures I took while I was already living, and working from one year in the States, in one of these pictures I'm standing at the bottom of one tower with my family" I was in a total shock, I could not believe that was really happening.

Things got even worst when the second tower collapsed.

Now I was in a total conf
usion, my mind was bubbling with questions while my I had forgotten completely about my job, and my day ahead. All my worries were now all focused on this immense tragedy.body was frozen in a still position.More bad news were coming from the TV, now a third plain crashed in the Pentagon, more minutes passed as a fourth plain crashed in a field in southwest Pennsylvania. "What was going on is the world gone insane", I was asking myself. The nightmare was getting worst by the minutes. I realized that moment, three of my brothers were working in Manhattan.

In the previous attack on Februar
y 26 1993 a truck filled with explosives, had det
onated in the underground garage at World Trade Center in the North Tower, and one of my brothers was working there. What I didn't know on September 11 2001 my brother Mike's firm had moved him to the building number 7, in the year previous to all this happening. My mother didn't know either, she had left work, as soon she got the news from relatives and friends.
